Federal Electricity Commission has Baja California Sur in the shadows
La Paz, Baja California Sur, September 14, 2018 - All day long Friday, September 14, there have been blackouts all over Baja California Sur, leaving thousands of customers without electricity in four of the five municipalities in the state. This has caused the CFE to declare a state of emergency.

Although as of the time being there is an official version from the CFE of what is happening, it was determined the blackouts are caused by an over demand for power which the parastate agency is unable to provide.

"At 5:30PM the Baja California Sur Electric System declared an Operating State of Emergency, due to the low margin of operating power reserves, the deficit in available power generation available and load affects," said the CFE document, which explained the reasons behind the intermittent service.

The most affected municipalities are La Paz, Los Cabos, Comondú and Loreto, and most of the neighborhoods have had power blackouts. This has caused annoyance among power customers, due to the risk to home appliances and high temperatures.

This would be the first time in which something similar has occurred in Baja California Sur. CFE is having difficulties meeting the demand for power required by the population all over the state.
