MEXICO CITY.- The United States Ambassador to Mexico, Roberta Jacobson, condemned the murder of the Special Prosecutor for Sexual and Family Crimes in the Panuco region (north of Veracruz), Yendi Guadalupe Torres Castellanos.

In her official twitter account, the diplomat described as "detestable" the crime against the official of the Attorney General's Office and said that the act undermines the justice system and the protection of women and girls

Under the hashtag # QuiénDefiendeALosDefensores #RompeElSilencio, the representative of the US government said that the death of the Prosecutor highlights the vulnerability of Mexican officials.

"The detestable murder of Prosecutor Torres Castellanos in Pánuco demonstrates the enormous sacrifices made by Mexican officials to defend the most vulnerable." It is an attack on the justice system and protections for women and girls," she said.

Torres Castellanos was attacked by gunshots at 9AM today in front of the office of the Integral Unit for Law Enforcement in the municipality of Pánuco.

The public servant was traveling in a white X-Trail Nissan pick-up with XYG 508A license plates from the state of Veracruz, and when she was parking in front of the office, she received several bullet wounds.

During the past weekend, the state of Veracruz experienced one of its most violent days of the year with the murder of 26 people, including a mayor and dismembered bodies, as well as shootings in highly populated areas.
