Gasoline production in Mexico hits bottom

The production stoppages in at least two Pemex refineries during October caused gasoline production to register another historical minimum, of 179,500 barrels per day.

The fall off of production is 35%, when compared with October, 2016, when gasoline production reached 277,800 barrels per day, according to Pemex.

Since September, 2017, the monthly production of gasoline fell below 200,000 barrels per day, according to data published by the state business. Gasoline production for October is the lowest of all months sine January, 1990.

According to these figures, in October, 2017 just 23% of the gasoline sold in Mexico was produced in Mexico, the remainder was imported.

Gasoline was not the only fuel affected. In October, diesel production was only 99,400 barrels per day, another historic minimum for Pemex.

In that case, the drop off was 44% from October, 2016.

Gasoline imports increased 8% in October when compared to October, 2016, and increased to 576,000 barrels per day. Diesel imports increased to 251,000 barrels per day.
