44 Central American migrants ask for asylum in the USA at San Ysidro
Tijuana, November 12, 2017 - This Sunday, 44 Central American migrants who travelled 3,000 miles in a "Guadalupe Migrant Solidarity Ordeal" surrendered to CBP authorities at the El Chaparral border crossing, with the objective of asking for asylum in the United States.

Out of a group of 300 Hondurans, Salvadorans and Guatemalans who left their countries to flee from the violence a month ago, a little more than four dozen of them, including 14 minors of which six are unaccompanied, presented themselves at the border to ask for asylum. They will be evaluated by experts.

At the beginning of 2017, another group of Central Americans arrived in Tijuana with the same objective. However, there is only one known case of a family which was granted asylum by the United States.
