How sad. It seems most accidents involve another vehicle coming at you in your own lane.

This morning's news in El Vigia says the accident was caused by Jesse Skates. He was heading northbound into the setting sun, which blinded him and he crashed into the southbound vehicle.

well, that's one of the perils of driving in daylight I guess. I don't think anything annoys drivers more than driving into the sun.

My grandfather is Jesse Skates. My family has just picked up my Grandmother from IMSS No.69 in Vicente Gurrero. We have all the official report from the Policia Federal, stating that the driver of the 98 chevy astro van "invaded" the northbound lane, connecting with my grandparents truck head-on, Killing my Grandfather upon impact. My grandparents are/were residents of Baja Sur.

I am sorry for you loss. I hope your grandmother recovers quickly. The original news report was as you stated, that the car going south crossed over and hit your grandfather. The second report in El Vigia said that your grandfather was blinded by the sun and crossed into the southbound lanes. You will find that when in Mexico, facts often change.

I met Jesse and Cheryl this past winter on my first visit to Punta Chivato, they were an absolute delight, Jesse was going to help me restore my old Royal Enfield motorbike next winter, what an absolute tragedy he was a proper gentleman, what a loss for the community of Punta Chivato. My deepest sympathies to Cheryl and all his family and friends !
