Frontera, the Tijuana newspaper publishes a weekly crime report which they call a Security Barometer. Here is the week ending March 5, 2012:

Don't believe that no homes were robbed. It is just that nobody reports that, as they don't want the police in their homes to take what the criminals left behind.

That's for sure. We had a monitored alarm and told the company to only contact us, not the police. Problem is every time we open a door or set the alarm- the alarm sends a robo-call to the monitoring company (over 100 per month) so you have to trust them. We didn't (it ain't Brinks). We stopped the alarm service completely but my internet connection (telnor) still shut down at 10pm every night when the alarm seized the phone line. This went on for a few months after We stopped the monitoring service. I got tired of it and finally cut the wires. No problems since.
That is an amazing fact ..
