La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). “La Grillito” (the Cricket), one of the most emblematic persons in La Paz, was a robbery victim, said members at a taxi stand if front of the Sears on calle 16 de Septiembre, in downtown La Paz.

According to the statements, a group of vagrants stole the true companion of María de Jesús Sánchez Velázquez, also called “La Grillito.” The doll represented to her her dead husband named Alberto.

However, the taxi drivers say this is just one more piece of her bad luck, as a little while ago her close nephew died. He was run over in Ciudad Constitución, and she went there to see him.

They say La Grillito had given her wheel chair to her nephew to help him recover, however he died from his injuries.

Finally, drivers at the taxi stand, have petitioned the population to see if anybody has another doll which looks like the one stolen to give her, as that doll was, “her only friend and for her it is a mannequin,” they say.

María de Jesús was born in Ixtlán del Río, Nayarit on May 7, 1934, and lived in Sinaloa for some years. She finally came to Baja California Sur with her mother to live with her sister.

“La Grillito” has had poor eyesight since birth. According to her, the doll Alberto is a representation of her husband, named Alberto, and who was very short of stature, measuring only 45 inches tall.
