Herpes Virus Kills 90% – 95% of Young Oysters in Puerto Penãsco and Hermosillo

Authorities are reporting mortalities in juvenile farmed oysters of between 90% and 95% percent in La Cinita estuary, municipality of Puerto Peñasco, and Santa Cruz estuary in Hermosillo, while beds in Morua estuary, of Puerto Peñasco reported mortalities of 60%. It appears to be caused by a herpes virus that kills the young oysters in a 3 to 5 day period.
