American Among Bus Passengers Kidnapped in Tamaulipas

An American is reported to be among the dozens of passengers kidnapped by armed men in the state of Tamaulipas and who continue missing, reported the US Department of State. Tamualipas is the Mexican state where 72 bodies were found in clandestine graves last week.

The US Consulate in Matamoros, said that at least in one case, an American was among the people kidnapped by force, and none have been found.

The embassy in Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas, said in an updated message today that it has received three reports of American citizens, or their families, since late March or early April, of passenger buses which have been boarded by criminals.

The Consulate is advising Americans to refrain from travelling by bus or private transport in Tamaulipas.

In a separate report issued on the same day, the US embassy reported, “the U.S. government has received ‘uncorroborated’ information that Mexican gangs are intending to attack security forces and U.S. citizens in the near future in Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi.”
